Advantages Of SmartLiposuction
According to the manufacturer of the SmartLipo™' device, Cynosure, this system has quickly become one of the most successful liposuction procedures in the world in the cosmetic surgery field for the use of cutting-edge technology.
There are many advantages to using the SmartLipo laser liposuction technique. First, the patient does not require general anesthesia, minimizing risks and avoiding the side effects such as nausea and prolonged recovery. Second, SmartLipo is a much more precise and thorough procedure. With the patient being awake this provides tremendous advantages to the liposuction surgeon. The patient has muscle tone and can flex and tighten certain muscles which makes it easier to get more complete and targeted fat removal. Third, SmartLipo typically uses a smaller cannula when compared to traditional methods, resulting in smoother end results and a safer procedure.
With the SmartLipo liposuction procedure, a hollow, pen-sized instrument called a cannula is inserted into a minor incision made by the surgeon. The cannula uses a small laser to liquefy the fat cells of an area and suck them away. Because the cannula is only about 1.0 mm to 2.0 mm, SmartLipo is a less invasive procedure than other liposuction techniques, reducing the risk of bruising and promoting a quicker recovery. In addition, the cannula's laser acts as a visual guide, helping the surgeon make more precise movements than typical Liposuction as well as to help tighten the skin.
During liposuction, the Smartlipo device is used in conjunction with the tumescent liposuction technique. During surgery large volumes of saline solution, infused with lidocaine and adrenaline are injected into the targeted fatty tissue. This allows for localized numbing of only the affected area. There may be some discomfort with injection of the solution, but generally patients don't need general anesthesia. The tumescent solution offers unique benefits, as well as the procedure itself. In addition to numbing the target areas, the solution reduces bleeding by temporarily closing capillaries. When there is less bleeding, there is less bruising, thereby speeding the recovery process. In addition, since the local anesthesia remains in the treated tissue, numbness may last for sixteen hours or more after surgery, so there is less pain and discomfort. Patients usually require only over-the-counter pain relievers. The after-effects of the solution, combined with the gentleness of the surgery, enable most patients to return to normal daily activities in a couple of days.
SmartLipo is usually less costly than other methods of liposuction. Since the procedure can be performed under local anesthesia, there is no need for the surgeon to hire an anesthesiologist. In addition, the procedure is most often performed in the attending surgeon's office or in a surgical center, which is more cost-effective than booking a hospital operating room.
SmartLipo uses the latest advancements in laser cosmetic surgery technology, which provides a safer, quicker and cost-effective liposuction technique. To find out if SmartLipo is right for you, e-mail us or call 480-946-7100 for a consultation.
